ADHD AND THE RARE MOMENT OF REST

If you have ADHD, buy yourself a hammock!

One of the very few things known to slow my brain is a hammock. Keeping up with my ADHD brain (medicated, self-medicated, or otherwise) is like running a marathon at a full sprint. Or driving a car stuck at full speed with no brakes. It is always a very welcomed respite when my brain finally demands that I take break from my typical perpetual motion and thought. This morning was one of those days. I generally wake up and bound out of bed around 6:30 am and I struggle to eventually force myself to finally climb back into bed around midnight. Most days I literally do not stop moving, talking or thinking… every day is an 18-hour roller coaster ride of endless energy and a tidal wave of continuous thought. Both seemingly out of my control… I’m just along for the ride! My medication organizes the chaos, but it doesn’t slow my roll.

A hammock does.

Thanking my brain this morning for forcing me to take 60 minutes to regroup and pause and allow me to feel still, both mentally and physically. It’s a rare occurrence, but always appreciated. It will happen again in another month or two. I hope.

But until then…. Let’s GO!!!
